Joseph G. Wakim, PhD
I am a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), studying structural biology and functional genomics. Using biomolecular foundation models, I evaluate critical applications and safety considerations in drug discovery and biosecurity. In addition to my experience developing and evaluating data-driven models, I am also trained in physics-based applications. Before joining LLNL, I completed my PhD in the Spakowitz Laboratory at Stanford University, where I developed mechanistic models of chromatin organization, such as Chromo. I am also passionate about teaching and mentorship. I have contributed to the development and instruction of courses focused on machine learning applications in engineering and healthcare. Overall, I aim to leverage my training and experiences to promote public health and safety by advancing computational models and supporting STEM education.
